050903 How about comprising half the school board with non-parents
To the Editor:
I would like to thank the Bedford Central school boards past, present and future for their sacrifice of time and dedication.
I feel there is no fiscal balance on the hoard because most, if not all, members have children in the school
system. We all know, as parents, we want the best education for our children, and if you're a member of the school board, this probably translates into larger-than-necessary budget increases.
Maybe it's time to change the rules governing the board's makeup, making it mandatory that 50 percent of the individuals have no children in the school system. It was refreshing to read Mr. Santora's comments on how budget increases affect empty nesters and fixed income families.
