071505 Slivka, Sacks to take board reins

Board vice president Mark Slivka was unanimously elected to the post of president of the Bedford Central School District Board of Education. Mr. Slivka has served on the board for seven years.

Brad Sacks was also unanimously elected to fill the vice president's seat. Mr. Sacks has served on the board for five years.

Nominating Mr. Slivka was board member Donna Marino.

"I've had the pleasure of working with Mark for the last year, and I'm very impressed with his leadership' skills and his incredible ability to lead the finance committee," said Ms. Marino. "It gives me great pleasure and an it's and honor to nominate Mark Slivka to the position of president of the Bedford Central Board of Education."

Board member Susan Wollin nominated Brad Sacks for vice president. "It seems that you are a natural choice, since this is your fifth year on the board," said Ms. Wollin. "We are all looking forward to working with you for the upcoming 2005-06 school year."

Mr. Slivka lives in Pound Ridge and has twin children entering Fox Lane Middle School. He is a corporate attorney and currently earns his living as a financial adviser and investor. He has chaired the Bedford Central Board of Education's Finance Subcommittee for three years and was president of the PTA at the Pound Ridge Elementary School for four years. Mr. Slivka has served on the principal search committee at Pound Ridge Elementary School and is a coach for the Bedford Youth Soccer Club and the head coach for the Bedford USA travel team. He is also a member of the Pound Ridge Good Neighbor Award Committee and a member of the Pound Ridge Lions Club.

Mr. Sacks lives in Bedford Corners and has one child in 10th grade at Fox Lane High School and one child who has graduated from Bedford Central and is currently a sophomore at Ithaca College. Mr. Sacks has served on the construction committee for three years and was a member of the Citizens Facilities Advisory Committee.

"I've had the good fortune to work with an outstanding board during the past year," said superintendent Dr. Debra Jackson. "The board's work will continue with new members and Mark Slivka as president. Mark has been on the board for the past seven years, and he's been a true resource to the district."

Dr. Jackson added that "Brad Sacks has also been very much involved in construction and many initiatives in the district."

The board members for the upcoming year will include president Mark Slivka, vice president Brad Sacks, Susan Wollin, Mark Chernis, Fran LoMonaco-Loucas, Donna Marino, and newest board member Dr. Eric Karle.

Mark Chernis said, "Both Mark and Brad are wonderfully qualified to lead the board for the coming year."

Board member Susan Wollin said, "We are looking forward to a successful year with many accomplishments on behalf of the Bedford Central School District."
