MEET THE BAUMANN SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS SCHOOLS | December 18. 1998 TO: Board of Education (Via Fax) FROM: Bruce L. Dennis, Superintendent of Schools RE: Meeting With Amicus Parents on "Satan" Suit The amicus parents and People for the American Way have requested a meeting with representatives of the Board, district counsel, and me on Monday. December 21, 1998 at 7 p.m- in the Board Conference Room. This meeting came about when I was contacted by one of the amicus parents who indicated that they and their representatives wanted to know how they might be of additional assistance to the Board with regard to the pending lawsuit. I suggested that they might want to have their counsel call our attorneys, to see if Larry and Warren felt that such a meeting would be productive--'mainly because I didn't want us to sustain additional attorney fees for an unnecessary meeting. Warren and Larry feel that we should hold such a meeting, not because they are interested in any further intervention by the parents or their counsel, but because they think we should not be alienating any supporters before this goes to trial. In any event, we've set up this meeting for Monday night, and I think it would be good if we could have a few Board members present. Warren advised that there should be no more than three people from the Board, or we'll have a quorum and be subject to the open meetings law We could, of course, convene this as an executive session of the board to discuss litigation, but we'd prefer not to be framing this as OUR meeting, but rather as a meeting we are attending because we were invited. Please call me by noon on Monday to let me know if you're available to attend and wish to do so.. If more than three people respond positively. I'll ask Deborah to determine whom she wishes to represent the Board. Thanks, and have a good weekend.
